Maupertuis welcomes the EU Islands Strategy at Cypriot Presidency event in Paphos

As an Island Member State it’s a hugely important signal that the Republic of Cyprus organises a high-level event on “Strengthening EU Islands and Coastal Communities.”. For years EA President Nanette Maupertuis has pushed for an EU Islands strategy, and she took the opportunity on this event to thank the Cypriot Presidency and Executive VP for Cohesion and Reforms Raffaele Fitto for making this a reality.

EA President insisted on the potential of islands if they are given the investment in physical and digital infrastructure, energy investment or water benefiting island communities which often get excluded due to land continuity constraints.

Concluding her words, she finally also called for an Island chapter to be included in future Cohesion Policy, within the next MFF.
